As we reach the mid-point in the final week of the 2015/2016 summer season it’s time to review our successes and highlight some of the achievements made by our school on a sporting front.

Cricket:
• 2016 saw Bishop Bavin hosting not one but two Mini Cricket festivals to great success. This festivals included around 250 cricketers from 13 surrounding schools. The two days showcased our school and served as a fantastic advert for Bishop Bavin.
• We were the only school in the East Areas League that entered a Grade 0 team which is fantastic.
• The U/9 Cricket Team continued to excel only losing 1 match.
• The Commonwealth cricket team finished 3rd at the St.Catherines cricket tournament.

Swimming:
• Our Swimming team continue to move from strength this term with 2 gala wins and a clear improvement in the majority of swimmers who were committed and showed dedication throughout the season.

Tennis:
• Tennis has seen a dramatic increase not only in participation, with us now having tennis from Grade 00 but also in results headed up by our fantastic college team who won their league at the end of last year and now finished top of their new league.

Basketball:
• Yet another fantastic season for all basketball players, as Bishop Bavin dominated the league across all age groups.
• Before the playoffs our Open Boys were ranked no.1 in Gauteng and our Open Girls sitting in 3rd overall.

Rowing:
• The end of the rowing season proved to be a testing, but ultimately very successful for the Bishop Bavin crew bringing home over 50 medals throughout the seasons regattas.
• The stand out medals were of course the silver and bronze medals won at SA Champs

Touch Rugby:
• Although touch rugby is one of the newer competitive sports at Bishop Bavin, our Boys and Girls have clearly taken to the sport, with over 30 players consistently playing on Wednesdays
• Our Boys are currently ranked 2nd in the JHB in2touch summer league.

Our Pre-season plan for winter has already had some successes:

• Our Prep Football teams attended the annual BCC 7-a-side tournament where we were the only school taking part amongst clubs. We also won Goalkeeper and Player of the Tournament.
• Our College will be sending a number of netball players to area trials this week

We are looking forward to more successes in Term 2.
