Grade 12 learners went to Gold Reef City on a Maths outing. They were shown how much Maths happens around them. Probability came into who was going to win the Lion Race; the Golden Loop hits speeds of 85km/h within 3 sec; distance, speed and time calculations can be done; the angles can be determined between the poles holding each chair on the Big Wheel; the swinging of the Dream Boat creates a circular path; the number of revolutions the Miner’s Revenge did.
There are many examples of Maths around everywhere. The learners had a lot of fun and many came home with an adrenaline overdose. Well done to those who were brave to try rides they had never experienced before. Once again the Bishop Bavin learners were exceptionally behaved.
